Why Mikel Arteta Might Fail As An Arsenal Manager 1

In the last three months this season, Arsenal have used three managers; what has never happened in the club’s history. Since the departure of Arsene Wenger, Arsenal as a team has witnessed rapid depreciation under Unai Emery.

Having spent heavily in his second season, Unai Emery still could not get the best out of his squad and eventually got relieved of his duties after just eighteen months into the job.

After the exodus of Emery from Arsenal, many managers were touted to replace him after Freddie Ljungberg was announced as the interim manager till a new one will be found.

Interestingly, the hierarchy at Arsenal felt that going to the man they once rejected to favor Emery in 2018 was now the best option for them which is why Mikel Arteta will be at the dugout when Arsenal face Bournemouth at the vitality stadium later this afternoon.

Many arguments have trailed the appointment of the 37-year-old and as some pundits have predicted doom for him, some other people are reserved to seeing what he will do in the first couple of months before they can give their assessment.

One thing we need to know is that the chance of Arteta succeeding at Arsenal is very slim and in this piece, we will be analyzing some of what may serve as catalysts to Arteta’s failure.

Arsenal’s Problem Has Gone Beyond Appointing Former Players.

In as much as many will try to make a case for Frank Lampard and Pep Guardiola when talking about former players that excelled as a manager in their first job, the case at Arsenal presently will make such people have a sterile argument.

At Barca, Pep had Iniesta, Xavi, and a rising Messi and some couple of players back then that made his job so easy and a success. Arsenal is a direct opposite to that Barca team because apparently this current Arsenal lacks co-ordination, cohesion and the drive to be consistent even with Pep as a manager.

Why Mikel Arteta Might Fail As An Arsenal Manager 2

With the precarious situation Arsenal are in right now, a top-notch manager is all they need as a club. A manager that can come in and be given time to settle down and make sure that this Arsenal team gets back the identity and push for success. Not some old players for the club.

The Money Problem

This is an aspect where Arteta might have issues with Raul Sanlehi, Stan Kroenke and the likes. Particularly when Arsenal just spent some hefty amount of money on the team and has yielded nothing productive.

Ideally, looking at the pedigree of Arteta, he’s just served as an understudy to a manager that spends massively and has been criticized heavily for using money to buy trophies. This, as a result, will put a dent on Mikel’s clean image at the North London club when the time for reinforcement comes

For Arteta, It’s A Bad Start To Managerial Life

For a man who played industriously in England, understanding English football isn’t so hard as a Player. But as a manager, it’s completely a different kettle of fish. Experience counts and this is one part he will need his experience to Cone

One of Arteta’s problem is how he will be able to cope with the ego of some of the Arsenal players. A relatively unknown and inexperienced manager in Arteta will definitely find it difficult to make something out of this divided Arsenal side. The first hurdle he must look to skip is how he will manage some of the senior players at Arsenal.

The dearth of Leadership Quality

Making a good captain with tremendous leadership qualities doesn’t translate to becoming a good manager with such a mindset. Another headache for Arteta will be how he will be able to lead the team when the undulating times come around for Arsenal.

In order not to make his appointment a risky gamble, one of the problems is how to instigate confidence in this team that seems to be lacking one in every ramification as of now.
