The FC Bayern Youth Cup is an international tournament series that is played in cooperation with existing FC Bayern partners in selected countries (including Brazil, China, India, Italy, Japan, Myanmar, Nigeria, Singapore, Thailand, and the USA). The aim is to give children worldwide the chance to show their talent, irrespective of their social background.
The FC Bayern Youth Cup in Nigeria is powered by VOE Foundation, FC Bayern’s presenting partner for the tournament series in Nigeria and hosts the 3rd edition of the tournament across 15 states from November 2019 to January 2020.
Participants who distinguish themselves in terms of skill, fair play and attitude will get a chance to be selected by a Bayern Legend to represent Team Nigeria at the World Finals at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
These lead to a National Final in the participating country, at which an FC Bayern representative selects the so-called National Team, which consists of the ten best male players of the participating country aged 14 to 16 years. This team is then allowed to travel to Munich in May to take part in the FC Bayern Youth Cup World Final and compete against the players or teams of the other participating countries. The World Final takes place annually in the Allianz Arena on the day following the last home match of FC Bayern.
Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Jos, Kwara, Ogun, Ekiti, Ondo, Edo, Anambra, Imo, Enugu, Rivers and Akwa Ibom will all get a taste of the FC Bayern Youth Cup Nigeria 2020 with the National Finals billed you to take place in January 2020 in the presence of FC Bayern Legend Giovane Elber.
Tournament Director of the Nigerian Tournament and VOE Foundation representative, Victor Obinna Edeh, spoke about the success recorded so far and plans for the 2020 edition.
“We are delighted at the impact the tournament is having on the young players in Nigeria,”.
“We have a pool of over 25 very talented players who have been selected by the FC Bayern delegation over the last two editions who we believe will have big futures in the game and would be great ambassadors for our project.
“Already, 5 players from the group have received call-ups to the national U16 and U17 camps with Francis Daniel, enjoying a remarkable year and earning a place in the Golden Eaglets team representing Nigeria at the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup in Brazil.
“We look forward to unearthing more talent and another life-changing experience in Munich for the boys”
Victor added, “The 2020 FC Bayern Youth Cup Nigeria will reach more states so that players who have not had the opportunity to take part in previous tournaments can partake as we bid to grow the project.
“A total of 15 states will be reached and we would also introduce individual registrations”
