2019 'Golden Boy': Matthijs de Ligt , Jadon Sancho & Mason Mount On Final 20-man Nominees 1

The Golden Boy’ is the most prestigious trophy for promising young footballers around the world. 30 Sports journalists from all over Europe choose the greatest generational talent of 21 and under.

The football governing body (FIFA) first released a 40-man list last month, which included six Premier League youngsters, but now that has been cut in half to a final 20.

The list, made up of the best Under-21 players from across the European leagues, also includes the likes of Barcelona’s new superstar Ansu Fati, Atletico Madrid’s £107m man Joao Felix and Manchester United transfer target Erling Haaland.

It all started in 2003 when Rafael Van de Vaart won the prize. From Leo Messi to Kylian Mbappe, all of them have won ‘Golden Boy’. Amongst these 20 finalists will be the successor of Matthijs de Ligt, who could win it again.
