Vitoria Setubal midfielder Mikel Agu has been included in the Super Eagles’ temporary squad for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Bafana Bafana.
The Midfielder, who is on loan from FC Porto, is one of the new faces that have been named in Super Eagles provisional squad for the 2019 AFCON qualifier against the SouthAfrica at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, as indicated by ScoreNigeria.
Agu joined Porto youth Academy in 2009. He made his first debut against Gil Vicente in a 2-1 win coming as a substitute for Josué. Doing as such, he became the first Nigerian to play for the club. Taking after his brilliant performance in Porto B team, the then coach Paulo Fonseca elevated him to the senior level.
The 23-year-old was previously involved with the Nigeria’s U20 team in 2016 Rio Olympics team.
“Mikel Agu is one of the fresh call-ups being considered by coach Gernot Rohr,” an official was quoted.
“We will know for sure if he will be part of the squad to the training camp in France in a week or so when the provisional squad is pruned as there are players who will not be available for one reason or the other.”
