Real Salt Lake star Sunday Stephen has been named in Major League Soccer’s Team of the Week for the most recent round of matches in the American top flight.
The Nigeria international delivered one of his best performances for the American soccer outfit, helping goalkeeper Nick Rimando to keep a clean sheet in their 1-0 win over Nigerian-born Oguchi Onyewu’s Philadelphia Union at Rio Tinto Stadium.
The former Spain U20, U 21 player completed 27 of 34 passes, won three tackles, and four interceptions in RSL’s protective third and had two clearances.
Sunday, who was of Nigeria descent, was eligible to play for Spain under FIFA rules permitting players with double nationality and without a full international cap to switch allegiance before they turn 21.
