League leaders Plateau United suffered their defeat of the season following a 2-1 loss to Akwa United in week 8 of the Nigeria Professional Football League, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium Uyo on Sunday.
The Jos-based club maintained their lead at the top of the NPFL table with 17 points despite suffering a loss in Uyo.
Awka United new signing Christain Pyagbara set the home side ahead in the 6th minute of the game before Alhassan Ibrahim double the lead five minutes into Second half while Substitute Chima Ndukwu’s consolation goal reduce the 2-0 deficit on the hour mark.
Plateau head coach Kennedy Boboye said he expects the unbeaten run to end one day:
“I know that one day our unbeaten run in the league will come to an end, but not against Akwa United as I’m not really convinced and impressed with their performance in the clash.
“The attackers were poor. If they had converted the chances at goal, we would have even scored with Akwa United.
“Well, we have lost this particular match at Akwa United we will get back home to be ready for the clash against Niger Tornadoes.
“We will work very hard to reclaim the points as well as get back to winning ways once again,” said the former Abia Warriors and Sunshine Stars coach to supersport.com
Meanwhile, in other fixture El- kanemi secured a massive win of the day, after a comfortable 3-0 win over Gombe United, Nassarawa United also cruise past Abia Warriors with a 3-1 win at the Lafia City Stadium.
While Niger Tornadoes extended their unbeaten game to five games following a 1-0 victory over Enyimba.
