Assistant coach of Lobi Stars Evans Ogenyi has stated that the team wants to win the NPFL Championship Play-offs currently ongoing at the Agege stadium in Lagos in honour of the team’s Late coach, Solomon Ogbeide.
The tactician made this known while speaking to CheapGoals.com reporter, Daniel Ademiju after the side’s 3-1 win over FC Ifeanyi Ubah on Tuesday night. He stated that it was of Late Ogbeide’s wish and plan for the team to secure Continental ticket once again this season in order to end suggestions and insinuations that the team’s League win last season was a fluke.
Lobi Stars who are the defending Champions of the NPFL lost their Head Coach in May with two games in hand in the regular season and with a playoff spot uncertain. Evans Ogenyi stated that although Ogbeide is gone, the players are motivated to go as far as possible in the Championship play-offs and possibly picking up a CAF competition spot to serve as the last respect for their manager who died on the 20th of May 2019 just hours before a home game against Wikki tourists.
In his words, he described Solomon Ogbeide as a father, a mentor, a friend who gave his all in the discharge of his duties, and as such deems, it fit to fulfil his wish before his demise.
Speaking on the 3-1 win, he praised Fc Ifeanyi Ubah’s youthfulness and quality insinuating that the experience of his boys and the lack of tactical discipline on the side of the opposition was key to their win which now stretches their unbeaten run to ten matches.

He further explained that any of the six teams could win the competition as no team is a pushover at this level and hopes to build on the positive start they have recorded. A brace from Samad Kadiri and a spectacular overhead kick from Sikiru Alimi ensured that Tega Ebetomame’s 40th-minute goal for Ifeanyi Ubah was a mere consolation.
Lobi Stars will now hope to get another win on Thursday, June 6 when they face Rangers by 5 pm at the same venue just moments after Akwa United and FC Ifeanyi Ubah trade tackles, to improve their chances of securing of booking a Continental ticket.
