Kano Pillars continued their fine run in the Nigeria Professional Football League on Sunday as they secured a 3-1 win over Enyimba in a packed-full atmosphere at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.
Kano pillars forward Kabiru Balogun scored a brace while Gambo Muhammed added another in stoppage time to give ten-man pillars a 3-1 over Enyimba FC of Aba. The people’s elephant got their consolation through a spot kick converted by chukwude after former Enyimba skipper Chinedu Udoji was sent off in the 68th minute for a deliberate handball and a second yellow card for the evening.
The hosts in front of their capacity filled supporters started the game brightly as pillars midfielder Rabiu Ali called goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai into action twice in the opening minutes before Kabiru Balogun scored his first of the evening in the 24th minute of the encounter through a deflected shot, he added a second on the hour mark after beating Enyimba defence offside trap to slot home past ex pillars goalkeeper Afelokhai in goal for Enyimba.
The people’s elephant had hopes of a comeback when they were rewarded a penalty after Udoji handled the ball in the box, Chukwude held his nerves to convert the resulting spot kick before Gambo Muhammed scored deep into stoppage time to kill any hopes of a comeback by Enyimba.
In the oriental derby in Anambra, it was goals galore as Fc Ifeanyi Uba (FCIU) played an entertaining 2-2 draw with Abia warriors, Abia warriors had taken the lead in 19th minute through Adetunji Sunday before Stephen Ezeh equalised for the Anambra warriors in the 38th minutes. King Osanga then put FCIU in front in the 63rd minute but a win was not to be for them as Chinedu Ozor scored an equaliser in the 78 minute to ensure a share of the spoils.
Mountain of Fire Ministries striker and league top scorer Stephen Odey scored his 7th goal of the league as MFM FC defeated south Western rivals Remo stars 1-0 the striker scored from the spot at the Agege stadium in Lagos. Remo stars lost influential captain Victor Mbaoma to an injury during the game and couldn’t find an equaliser as MFM continued their fine form in the league.
In another derby in Port Harcourt, Rivers united scored in the first minute of the game through, Esosa and held on until the 90th minute to record a 1-0 over defending champions Enugu rangers.
Results from other matches in the NPFL on Sunday saw Akwa united defeat El kanemi 1-0 in Uyo, Striker Ibrahim Alhassan scored the only goal of the game in the 83rd minutes. Abubakar Bukola Saraki FC (ABS) defeated kastina United 1-0 Ilorin, Adesina Gata scored the winning goal of the game in the 25th minute of the encounter.
Niger tornadoes defeated Nasarawa United 2-0, Wakili scored the opening goal and provided another for Ebenezer Adeyemi while Lobi stars’ Anthony Okpotu scored the winner in a 1-0 win over Gombe united. Sunshine stars did the needful over Wikki tourist on a rainy Sunday in Akure, with a 1-0 victory.
Shooting stars and plateau united played a 1-1 draw in Ibadan after crowd trouble from the home fans put the game on hold in the second half, however, the referee was able to return the game to normalcy.
Plateau united still top the league with 22 points, 1 more than El kanemi warriors who are second. Remo stars are bottom of the league with 9 points and 3 points from safety.
