The Second round matches of the 2016/17 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has now been rescheduled to commence on Sunday, May 21, a move from the prior scheduled date of May 7.
Salihu Abubakar, the Chief Operating Officer of the League Management Company (LMC) in a notice to clubs imparting the new date, disclosed that it was to permit Rangers International and Rivers United finish their rescheduled fixture.
“We additionally have considered it appropriate to suit the State Federations Cup finals which clearly will include some of the NPFL Clubs”, Abubakar included.
Taking after their drop from the CAF Champions League to the CAF Confederation Cup, Rangers and Rivers United had outstanding fixtures rescheduled by the LMC and the dates have dragged past the middle of the season break.
“We didn’t think it would be suitable for the clubs to continue their first stanza fixture into the second round”, the LMC official noted.
Rivers United will on Wednesday, May 3 play Remo Stars while Rangers confront Plateau United in a portion of the rescheduled fixture.
