A legend of the Nigeria Professional Football League Victor Ezeji played his last game, a testimonial match was organised for him in Port Harcourt on Saturday as he ends two decades of football.
Victor is the only player who has it all in Nigeria League and has played two decades of the Nigerian league having played for sharks and Dolphins Fc of PortHarcourt and also ply trade with Aba giant Enyimba international.
Ezeji career with the National team wasn’t a rosy one as he only played in eight international matches for the Super Eagles, but that doesn’t give room for complacency and wasn’t touched for not being in a tougher league abroad and settled with the Nigerian league where he played for 7 clubs
Starting with Sharks FC 1996, Eagle Cement 1997–1999, Sharks FC 2000–2002, Enyimba FC 2003-2004, Dolphins FC 2004–2007, Club Africain 2007-2008, Sharks FC 2008-2012, Enyimba FC 2013-2014, Sunshine Stars FC 2014-2015, before he finally settled for Heartland FC in 2015.
Meanwhile, LMC chairman Alhaji Shehu Dikko and former Super Eagles player Mutiu Adepoju feature in the testimonial match, Dikko and Ezeji represent Team NPFL and both scored for their side while Rivers Legislator, Kelechi Nworgu also grab a goal for the opposing side Team Ezeji
Adepoju speaking to News Agency of Nigeria he said:
“This is how it is supposed to be. We all need to honour people that have done great for football in Nigeria, and it is nice meeting ex-international players I have not seen for some time. I congratulate him for this. It is not easy putting 20 years in the Nigeria league. This is an honour well deserved”.
Among other Ex-players who honoured the Testimonial was Augustine Eguavon a former Super Eagles coach said coming to honour Ezeji was a thing worth sacrificing his time for.
“I have other engagements but I cancelled all to be here. It is not only the international players that we need to honour. Ezeji has made a very impressive impact in the Nigerian league.
“I am glad to be among those that honoured his invitation to be here on the occasion of his testimonial match to draw the curtain close in his football career,” he added.
However, the celebrating Legend gives thanks to Almighty for his grace that runs in him for two decades in football and also commended Rivers State Government for their immense support for the testimonial.
“I thank everybody for coming out to honour me today. I am very grateful. I also appreciate everyone that contributed to my successful career in football,” he said.
