Barcelona coach Luis Enrique has admitted that Barca will need a “heroic performance” if they want to overturn the 4-0 deficit to Paris Saint-Germain in the Uefa Champions League last 16 first leg on Tuesday.
Angel Di Maria celebrate his 29th birthday with an opener in the 18th minutes of the game when he curled a stunning free kick into the net before January transfer import Julian Draxler made it 2-0 for Unai Emery’s side.
Things went sour for the Catalan giants in the 55th minute when birthday boy Di Maria turned the game into a real humiliation with a clinical finish to make it 3-0, While Uruguayan forward Edinson Cavani crowned the demolition in the 71st minute.
Barca has not been eliminated in the group stage and knock-out stage of the Champions League since 2007.
It is difficult to explain. They were superior to us from the start. It was a disastrous night for us in which we were clearly inferior. There’s not much more to say,” he told reporters after the humiliating loss at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night.
“PSG did what we expected them to do and produced their best version and we were at our poorest,” Luis Enrique continued.
“It’s extremely difficult for us now but we go back to our stadium and really we need a heroic performance. But why not dream.
However, no team have ever overturned such deficit of four or more goals to progress in the Champions League knockout stages, Barcelona will host PSG at Camp Nou Camp Nou on March 8, as they will require heroic comeback to progress through the uphill task.
