Lionel Messi is the “best player there is and there ever will be” as Ernesto Valverde lavish praise on the Barcelona star.
Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi found the back of the net twice in Barcelona’s 5-0 rout of Real Betis in Estadio Benito Villamarínon on Sunday.
Messi took his count to 19 league goals for the season, while Luis Suarez also netted twice after Ivan Rakitic’s opener.
“You need to enjoy him,” Valverde said of Messi. “We have been able to live to experience his era.
“I have suffered as a result of him and I understand what is like. Presently I can enjoy it.
“It is an occasion to watch him consistently. He is the best player there is and there ever will be.”
The win in Seville saw Barca move 11 points clear of second-place Atletico Madrid, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Girona.
While defending champion Real Madrid are 19 points adrift in the fourth position with an outstanding game.
“For us, it won’t be an exhausting and boring league,” Valverde told journalists. “We will keep trying to win our matches, without speculating about what’s to come.
“There are 18 games left and that is a great deal. In any case, each game we win will be a major step.”
