Kano pillars midfielder Al Hassan was the hero for the Sai Masu Gida as the defeated Wikki tourists 1-0 at the Sanni Abacha stadium while Fc Ifeanyi Ubah moved out of the relegation zone after a resounding victory in Nnewi.
Pillars dominated the game from the start with Nazifi curling the ball into the top corner only to be denied by Wikki’s goalkeeper Nwabulu who pushed the ball to safety. However, in the 30th minute of the encounter, AlHassan opened the scoring for pillars, hitting the target directly from a corner kick which proved to be the match-winner.
Kano pillars forward Gambo Muhammed was then stretched off in the encounter due to an injury and was replaced by Rabiu Ali. The win moves pillars into the top 3 while Wikki tourist drops into the 19th position just above Remo stars who are rock bottom.
Meanwhile, Remo stars were left unstuck in Nnewi as a second half a goal from Adou Blaise sandwiched in between a brace from Godwin Obaje gave FCIU a 3-0 of the sky blue stars.
After a disappointing 2-2 against Abia Warriors at home over the weekend, FCIU needed a victory over the relegation strugglers from Sagamu to move out of the relegation zone. Obaje set the tone for a much-needed victory from the spot in the 53rd minute while Blaise added a second in the 83rd before Obaje rounded up the victory in additional time.
Remo stars were without their influential striker Victor Mbaoma who is injured and will need to up their game against Abubakar Bukola Saraki on Sunday in Sagamu if they are to stop the impending free fall back into the Nigeria National League.
The match day 8 encounters were rescheduled due to FCIU and Wikki’s ill-fated participation in the CAF confederation cup matches against Al-Masry and RSLAF of Sierra Leone where they were both knocked out in the preliminary qualifying round.
