Coach of Nigeria Professional Football League side, Enyimba International, Gbenga Ogunbote was purportedly assaulted by furious fans after his side’s sub-par barren draw against Shooting Stars on Wednesday in Calabar.
Ogunbote who safeguarded Shooting Stars from the relegation zone last season before he joined Enyimba this season in a quite discussed transfer move in the NPFL amid the offseason and some irate fans feel he didn’t do what’s necessary to beat his former club in NPFL Match Day 11 game played across all centre on Wednesday.
According to Naijafootballplus: “It was an ugly scene, the fans came from the other side of the stadium to attack the coach and he was almost beaten. Some of the fans hit the coach with objects but the security men rescued the coach from what could have been a bloody incident,” said the source
This season NPFL has recorded series of event where irate fans assault their coaches over poor performances. the likes of Akwa United coach, Abdu Maikaba and acting Katsina United mentor Bazuye have all been asserted to endure assaults by their furious fans.
