Barcelona‘s dream of an unbeaten La Liga season were ended in their penultimate away game as they lost 5-4 at Estadi Ciutat de València. The La Liga champions had gone 36 League games unbeaten but trailed 5-1 after 56 minutes and their dramatic fightback missed the mark.

Emmanuel Boateng‘s superb hat-trick and Enis Bardhi‘s brace placed Levante in control and, in spite of Philippe Coutinho finishing his very own hattrick and Luis Suárez scoring a penalty, Barça’s quest for Laliga unbeaten record hit the woodwork.

In the wake of sharing the spoils at home to Real Madrid last week, in spite of playing the second half with 10 men, and whipping Villarreal, Barcelona sat just two games from the historical feat.

It was 1932 when the last side, Real Madrid, went unbeaten in the Spanish top flight but even that was across just 18 matches, in a 10- team league division.

This was Barcelona’s first league defeat since slipping up against Malaga on April 8 a year ago and keeping in mind that it has an insignificant effect on the table, Valverde will be scrutinized, not slightest concerning leaving out Lionel Messi who is hungry to secured this year Ballon d’Or and European golden shoe.

Here are Opta Stats behind Barcelona’s dream of an unbeaten record.
