FC Robo Queens football Club of Lagos got to a flying begin at home in the on-going 2016/2017 Nigerian women football association (NWFL) with a 1-0 triumph over Bayelsa Queens.
The splendid Osahon Queens began on a brilliant note from a very much controlled Chidinma Okeke’s exertion was a good effort by veteran Super Falcons goalkeeper Alaba Jonathan in the first few minutes of the game.
Incredible display and great possession of the ball was recorded for the two sides all through the first half of the pulsating encounter to keep the huge Lagos fans alive even as the scoreline stayed goalless.
The scoreline continued as before in the opening minutes of the second half as both sides adopted force in look for the lead. Imaginative drives from Robo Queens captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Monday Gift and Chidinma Okeke was a consistent threat to the visiting side, who were kept in the game by their productive goalkeeper.
The Bayelsa Queens side verged on finding the correct spot in the net when a John Chioma’s pass found Joy Bokiri in great position who played inadequately to Amole Damilola known as ‘the mosquito’.
75 minutes of the experience saw Ex-FC Robo Queens defender Anibaba Ayomide constraining Chidinma Okeke to a test coming about to a free kick at the edge of the box. The well taken free kick pulled Jonathan from her lines only to have missed the ball to Monday Gift who made no mistake and heads the ball into the net.
The match came a close with the Lagos-based club keeping each of the three points as a morale booster to a decent start to the season home and an exquisite approach to celebrate the new ultra modern Conesport jersey deal.
Robo Queens will travel to Rivers State to face NWFL defending champions Rivers Angels on Matchday three of the NWFL.
