A key figure of the English Premier League leaders, Chelsea, might push a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer if the Blues fails to offer the Spanish striker a pay rise.
According to Sunday Times, Diego Costa demands a pay rise on his current contract with the Blues, but Chelsea is yet to honour his request.
The 28-year-old forward earns £150,000 a week at Stamford Bridge and wants improve deal, with his contract expiring in 2019 if Chelsea fails to reward him a new deal Costa will be forced to return to Spanish La Liga.
Costa revealed that he was on the verge of joining Atletico Madrid before the start of the season.
“Yes, yes. I was about to leave. I was about to… but I’m happy here as well and that’s that,’ said the Spain international,” he said.
“I had the possibility to go to Atletico, because of a few things, the family, the life I have there but not because of Chelsea. Here, there’s a lot of love with the supporters, with the people, so I’m here very happy. I’m very content.
“There was one thing I wanted to change for family reasons but, well, it wasn’t to be and I continue happily here. It was important too that the manager, from the very first minute, said he counted on me.”
