CAF Champions League -Rangers, Rivers United Through To Next Round

Rangers international recorded a goalless draw in their game against Algeria’s JS Saoura in Enugu while Rivers United recorded a dynamic 4-0 win against AS Real Bamako of Mali, as both sides went through to the next round in the Total CAF Champions League.

Enugu qualified for the next round of the competition following their 0-0 draw at home to Algeria’s JS Saoura after having drawn 1-1 in Algeria.

Five -time CAF champions Zamalek of Egypt will host the Flying Antelopes on March 10-12 2017 before travelling to Egypt for the second leg encounter.

Rivers United defeated Mali’s AS Real Bamako 4-0 at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium courtesy of Benard Ovoke opener in the 29th minute before Esosa Igbinoba’s strike in the 57th makes it 2-0 after securing a pass from Ivorian forward Guy Kuemian.

Benard Ovoke gets Rivers third goal from another spot kick, while Esosa also got on the scoresheet again as he fired home the fourth goal just seven minutes away from stoppage time.

Rivers United are to face Sudan’s Al -Merrick in the next round of the competition.

Meanwhile, in other CAF competitions, it was tales of misfortunes for Nigerians representatives as Wikki Tourist were eliminated despite beating the Royal Armed Forces of Sierra Leone 1-0 at home, Al MasryAbia Warriors lost out of the CAF Confederation Al-Masry of Egypt on penalties after losing 1-0 in full time to the Egyptian side.

Ifeanyi Ubah had won the first leg of the encounter by 1-0 at home only to lose by same faith in Egypt, the game was decided by penalty after a 1-1 aggregate, the visitors lost 3-0 losing all their spot kicks
