Amidst speculation about Neymar‘s possible come back to Barcelona, top media outlet ‘Sport‘ published on Friday that the club expects something more than a gesture to the press before they launch an official bid for Neymar.
On the issue, the media keeps up that the PSG forward is analyzing the roadmap cautiously before choosing to leave the Parc des Princes, knowing the trouble that PSG will give him if he wanted to leave … much more so if he was leaving for Barcelona. And the latest rumour this time is that Barcelona are contemplating making a bid for the Brazilian and offering Ousmane Dembélé in the deal.
Neymar wants to take advantage of COPA America with Brazil, to meet with Barcelona directors in order to amend the relationship that was shattered years ago, when he took the deal on his termination clause and left with a 27m cash benefits.
That money, which has been solidified pending legal resolution since 2017, is the thing that Neymar expects to use as a negotiating advantage. A long way from saying ‘sorry’ freely or secretly to the club for his rude departure to PSG, the Brazilian could utilize the 27 million euros as a strategy to worm his way once more into the Catalan squad.
While these are just speculation that spice up the transfer windows, that they continue popping up every now and then ever since Neymar left gives all the proof required that the move to PSG helped neither the player or Barcelona.
Neymar is far from close to satisfying his own objectives and Barcelona on the other still limping from the vacant void left. In any case, a surprise return to Camp Nou for the Brazilian would be a bad decision and it would look much more terrible on the club to bring him back.
However, Neymar is the one that wanted to leave since his goals were to win a Ballon d’Or and not be in Messi’s shadow, PSG triggered his buy-out clause and secure him, while Barcelona proceeded to splash big on both Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembélé.
To include Dembele in a swap would only serve to prove that Barca has no little clue about what they are doing and seem to work on the present moment, instead of the future.
Neymar is 28 and has ostensibly regressed since moving to Ligue 1 in both sporting and professional level. He has not lived up to the hype since joining the French side and has not achieved the goal of winning a Champions League with a disastrous defeat against Manchester United, subsequent to being up 2-0 from the first leg, being PSG most recent bungle. He got into an encounter with a fan after PSG lost the Cup final to Stade Rennes in which he seemed to punch the fan before stepping up to receive his medal.
Barcelona needs to quit romancing Neymar’s and move on, their future post-Messi needs to include Ousmane Dembélé. The Frenchman two seasons at Barcelona has not been light up with the expected performances coupled with the high rise of niggling injuries, Dembouz is just 22 years of age. To give up on him at such a young age would be silly and unprofessional.
The problem with Dembele is his constant injury, hamstring muscle is often at risk from players who rely on a burst of acceleration, and this is certainly true of Dembélé. In his first year as a Blaugrana, he spent four months out due to a tear in his left hamstring and he can’t go a season without an injury but Neymar has missed enormous chunks of the last two seasons too because of injury Barcelona complained on Dembele.
Barcelona fixation on winning the Champions League and the manner in which Barca season finished, has obfuscated the judgment of those accountable for Barcelona if this is the course they pursue.
Whatever their trouble and question are, going anytime from now, Neymar isn’t the perfect answer to any of them. Any kind of deal would probably mean a four or five-year commitment and for a squad who is as of now getting up there in age, bringing Neymar back would simply mean Barcelona would wind up back in the same circumstance with nobody as back-up for any of the front three. For now, Barca has a future in Dembélé.
