Rivers United have reported that they will send an emphatic challenge to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over the “outlandish” assault on players and authorities of the club in Omdurman on Friday by fans of Sudanese club, Al-Merrikh.
The team unexpected was pelted with different objects as they advanced toward preparing at the Al-Merrikh Stadium, Omdurman. An official of the Rivers United FC, Ogude Bright was left harmed after an object tossed by the perturbed fans hit him in the face.
River United have now affirmed that they will lodge an official protestation to Caf over the unpalatable occurrence.
“This is unsatisfactory. We treated them extremely well when they came to Nigeria for the first leg and there were no grumblings.
“We are sharply baffled at the assaults coordinated towards us (on Friday) and the fledgeling will compose a formal dissent letter to Caf over this outlandish treatment distributed to us.
“Hopefully, Caf will take action,” Rivers State Sports Commissioner, Honourable Boma Iyaye, who led the Rivers United contingent to Sudan said.
Rivers United and Al Merreikh will meet on Sunday in a second leg, first round clash of the 2017 Caf Champions League at the Al-Merrick Stadium, Omdurman.
