Ex-Rangers international player who ply trade with Nassarawa United, Onweazu Obiekwu was reportedly dead during a training session this morning with the club.
According to reports, the Delta State-born footballer who is popularly known as Obungwongwo slumped on the pitch during a training session with his teammates and died instantly
The Nassarawa United player, younger brother to one-time Super Eagles Atlanta 96 Olympic gold medalist Kingsley Obiekwu, died this afternoon after slumping during the club’s training session this morning.and the player cause of death is yet to be revealed.
Obungwongwo started his football career with Hard Madrid FC of Ibadan and his heroics performance earned him the nickname Obungwongwo as he single-handedly stopped 3SC of Ibadan from beating an amateur side for three seasons. He was so good that the president of the club Kris Ifeanyi Nmozea always double his bonuses every single match he plays.
He had a brief spell with an unknown club in Lebanon and later returned home to join FC Ifeanyi Ubah from where he moved to Nasarawa United.
