Peter Utaka Wins Japanese League Highest Goalscorer Award

Ex-Super Eagle striker Peter Utaka was given the highest goalscorer award for his superb goalscoring season in the Japanese J1 league after he scored 19 goals for Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

However, he won the award alongside Vissel Kobe Fc striker Leandro who also had 19 goals in the J1 league this season.

Peter, moved to Chinese Super League Club Dalian Aerbin  January 2012, scoring 20 goals in 28 matches in his first season with Dalian where he plays alongside Ex-Barcelona players Seydou Keita and Fabio Rochemback.

He was transferred to Beijing Guoan for a sum of 2m Euro on July 9 2013,which made him the most expensive international signing in history of Beijing Guoan,where he also play with former Mali captain Freddy Kanoute, and made 15 goals in 35 appearances for the club, before Joining J1 League Champions Sanfrecce Hiroshima in 2016 and he registered his first goal in the Japanese Super Cup final in a 3-1 win against Gamba Osaka and ever since has been Sanfrecce’s weapon of mass destruction in the J1 league.

Despite his age, Utaka becomes the Second African player to win the award in Joan after Cameroun’s Patrick Mboma, after scoring 25 goals for Gamba Osaka in 1997.
