Newcastle United are gradually coming to fruition for the new season as Rafael Benitez has secure the signing of another player to reinforce his team ahead of the new season.
It is now official that the Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino Joins Benitez side on a season-long loan deal from Borussia Dortmund.
An official declaration made by Newcastle United on Friday afternoon, affirming Mikel joins Ghanaian international Christain Atsu, Lejeune, Murphy, and Manquillo at St James Park as the fifth summer signing.
The club’s statement speaks just of a ‘season-long deal’ but widespread detailing has confirmed that it would incorporate a trigger to a permanent move.
Mikel made 50 appearances for Spanish side Osasuna, before moving to Dortmund last summer, but only played nine times for the German club last season, and also feature for Spain at June’s European Under-21 Championship in Poland, where Albert Celades’ side were the tournament runners-up.
“It feels good and I’m exceptionally glad to be here, to be a part of this club. I’m looking forward to touching the ball, meet my new teammates and beginning to play football.
“I know it’s an extraordinary club and a truly nice city. I had diverse options but I think this is the ideal place for me to play.- Mikel expressed
