Luis Suarez reflects on his Anfield days saying that he couldn’t believe his fortunes in the wake of finding out that Liverpool was interested in securing his services from Ajax in 2011.
At that point of his career, the Uruguayan had become famous as a standout amongst most prolific forward in the Eredivisie with Ajax, but that reputation would develop further following his transfer to Anfield.
Addressing ‘What LFC Means To Me: Luis Suarez’, a special series of interviews marking 125 years of Liverpool football club, the Uruguayan international stated:
“When I was little, Liverpool was one of the biggest clubs in Europe and was renowned throughout the world, So when I found out about the club’s interest in me I was never in doubt because it’s the dream for any player.”

“I never imagined that I would get the chance to play there.”
The former fan favorite reserved special praise for the Liverpool fans: “At Anfield, the fans get right behind you to come what may,” he explained.
“The affection that they show to you is just so special, which in turn makes you lift up your head and respond, rather than letting it drop a little. “For me, this is just what the Liverpool fans have.”
The striker clearly still holds his former club close to his heart, despite having moved on to pastures new.
