Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin has said “a lot can happen” before the start of next season as he discusses a move back to Barcelona keeps on developing, and has opened the door to a return to Barcelona and says his family have already moved back to Catalonia.
However, with the arrival of new manager, Ernesto Valverde, whom the Arsenal star respects a lot, a deal could finally be struck this summer for the 22-year-old. The Catalans are in the market for a top-class right-back and have been vigorously connected with the 22-year-old, Ernesto Valverde is reported to have given the green light to a €50million bid for Bellerin, who left Camp Nou to join Arsenal in 2011.
With Bellerin having had less playing time since Arsene Wenger adjusted Arsenal’s traditional 4-5-1 formation to a 3-4-3, the Spanish defender has refused to rule out a potential move to Barcelona.
‘I have always been very happy [in London], my family settled over there with me, though now for family reasons they have returned to Barcelona,’ he explained.
‘Now I have a harder time, because I am a very family-orientated person. I depend a lot on them, and it will be a challenge being apart from them.’
He also revealed that the link to Barcelona excites him even though he tried to play it down.
‘It is very nice to hear about the interest from a club like Barca, the club I grew up with from when I was a kid,’ Bellerin told Mundo Deportivo.
‘I do not know anything at the moment. I’m an Arsenal player, but we’ll see what happens.’
He continued: ‘It’s something you don’t think about when you leave, because you do not know how things are going to go.
‘I was lucky enough to join Arsenal, things have gone well, and now receiving this kind of news from Barca makes me happy, but that does not just depend on me.’
‘Both Aleix Vidal and Sergi Roberto are two great players who can contribute a lot for us, for sure. I know that Sergi Roberto has been playing there for a long time. One of the virtues of Sergi Roberto is the versatility and I hope he continues with it and can help us in both positions.’
