According to reports from ‘Sport’, Bayern Munich and Spanish midfielder Javi Martinez could be set to join Manchester City.
Guardiola’s City side are experiencing a period of “freshening up” their squad and Martinez’s entry would be another progression in the right direction.
Martinez has spent 5 years in Germany with Bayern and is contracted until 2021. but, he is understood to have asked the forces that be at Bayern to enable him to move to City this summer, with the end goal for him to rejoin with former manager Pep Guardiola who enhanced his game hugely.
Guardiola is a father-like figure for the Basque, who said as much in 2016. Guardiola especially helped Martinez’s game, saying “Pep said he considered me to be a conceivable defender and that I must be prepared. We watched more than 200 videos together. We began to do practices everyday. He taught me new movement… I got exhausted in the end, but it was what I needed. Pep Guardiola is unimaginable.”
