FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi is currently five goals shy of becoming the top goal-scorer in Europe’s top five leagues since making his debut amid the 2004/05 season. The Barca star has registered 360 goals in 390 La Liga games, a record bettered by German retired striker ‘Der Bomber’ Gerd Muller.
The German striker scored 365 goals in 427 games for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga between 1966 -1979, but Messi is presently hot on his heels to catch up with the Germany World-Cup winner.
Gerd Muller is certainly tired of seeing the Argentine clinging forward, with Lionel Messi having officially broken his record for the most goals scored in a calendar- year scoring 91 goals in 2012, six more than Muller’s past record (85) goals.
There is no doubt at all that Messi will eventually break Muller’s record, the only question is when and how the Five-time Ballon d’Or winner will reach the goal count, there is every possibility that he could oversee it a short period of time.
FC Barcelona host Malaga CF on Saturday, with Messi no doubt hoping to fill his boots against Boquerones side lacking in any kind of confidence to subdue Barca firepower. Followed up by matches against Athletic Bilbao and Sevilla as the Argentine goes looking for six more goals to surpass the record and put his footprint in the sand of time.
