Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly made a secret call to Lionel Messi, taking the next set in an engrossing head-to-head battle with FC Barcelona star for the game’s most renowned award, the Ballon d’Or.
The Real Madrid star is set to draw level with the Argentinian at five wins each to bring their duopoly up to 10 years.
The last winner before them was Kaka while playing for AC Milan. Ronaldo, subsequent to retaining the Champions League with Real Madrid and securing a double with La Liga, should push out his arch-rival, but that hasn’t ceased him briefing Messi via telephone.
Ronaldo is said to have made the call out of respect for the Argentine star, having been informed that he has won, with Messi, in turn, congratulate him on his achievement.
The report, from Don Balon, reports how Ronaldo is as already beliving Messi may have the inside track to next year’s award following his hot streak to the start of the season.
The Barcelona star has scored 16 times in 17 games so far this season compared to Ronaldo’s eight in 13, with only one of those strikes coming in La Liga.
Neymar gives off an impression of being the favorite to part up the duopoly on the award, with his countryman Kaka tipping him to clinch the prestigious award.
“Football isn’t an exact science so it’s difficult to say what will happen in the future, but I would say that the next winner of the Ballon d’Or after Cristiano and Messi will be Neymar,” Kaka told the Colombian media outlet El Espectador.
