Ghanaian football star Kwame Bonsu is sentenced to two years in jail for assaulting and beating his wife in Sweden.
A Swedish court on Friday sentenced a Ghanaian football player in Sweden’s second division to two years in jail for assaulting and beating his better half.
Kwame Bonsu who ply his trade in Sweden Second Division side Gefle IF, and he will be expelled from the Scandinavian nation where he has lived in since 2013, the Gavle District Court said subsequent to serving his sentence.
He will likewise need to pay 245,000 kronor (no less than 25,000 euros roughly) in compensation for assaulting his wife, who is a Swedish national.
Bonsu initially met her in 2014 when he was playing in the southern Swedish city of Mjolby and wed the following year. A couple of months after the wedding he moved to the town of Gavle, situated around 300 kilometres (190 miles) far from Mjolby.
The wife said the sexual assault and beatings occurred in the couple’s condo amid a night in November 2015 when he had refused to let her out.
However, the Ghanaian international repeatedly denied the charges, but testimony from his wife’s relatives led the court to believe the victim’s version of declarations.
