Super Eagles and Manchester City forward Kayode Olanrewaju, who is currently on loan at Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk is glad to have opened his goalscoring account his new club.
Kayode headed home against Zorya for one of the fastest debut goals in Ukrainian topflight at Slavutych-Arena Stadium.
It has been a mixed year for the Nigerian international who cut off his loan spell at Spanish La Liga side Girona as a result of his lack of playing times.
Since he joined Shakhtar on loan from FC Girona in January he has failed to play a single game for The Miners but was given a chance to showcase his goal scoring abilities, he came on for Facundo Ferreyra in the first minute after regulation time and made an instant impact before the referee sounded his full-time whistle.
“I’m very happy, the game was impressive!,” said Olarenwaju after the game.
“I appeared at the end of the match, so within a few minutes I spent on the field, I couldn’t quite influence the developments. Of course, I’m happy that I managed to score a goal, that the team won – that’s essential for me.
“My family came, I scored the opening goal, that’s definitely a sign. In a word, it’s been a great day.”
The victory ensured Shakhtar Donetsk maintained their place at the top of the log with 60 points from 25 games while Dynamo Kiev follows closely with 54 points.
