Japanese league (J-league) side Gamba Osaka made a fantastic start in their quest to win the Asian Champions League (ACL) title with a dominant 3-0 away win over Adelaide United of Australia.

The home side had no answers to the impressive attacking exploits of the Japanese team, who were the last J-league side to win the competition in 2008.

The former champions took the lead in the 21st minute through striker Shun Nagasawa, who planted a towering header at the back of the net to finish off an inviting cross from Oh Jae-Suk. Midfield maestro Yasuyuki Konno doubled his side’s lead as he prodded home a rebound at the end of the first half before the scoreline was sealed when Dylan McGowan put through his own net off a free kick from Yasuhito Endo.

The win represents Gamba Osaka’s 4th win in six meetings against Adelaide United thus improving their chances of progressing into the next stage. In the other game in Group H, Jeju United of South Korea lost 1-0 to Jiangsu Suning of China in front of their home fans.
