Stunning goals form Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud, Deyna Castellanos and Oscarine Masuluke have been voted by countless of football fans across the world as their best three from the initial ten shortlisted for the 2017 FIFA Puskás Award as affirmed by FIFA on its official site.
After the first round of voting finished up on October 9, the second phase has now started. The aggregate from each round of voting will be added to choose the winner.
The voting will stay open until the day of the award, on Monday 23 October, with the winner of the fan vote getting their award in front of an audience at the memorable London Palladium.
The Arsenal forward is the first Frenchman to achieve the final three berth, he was shortlisted for his superbly executed, and magnificently nervy, ‘scorpion kick’ goal in a Premier League game against Crystal Palace, beating off competition from Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Deyna Castellanos is the second Venezuelan female player in successive years to reach the last three categories, following the strides of fellow countrywoman Daniuska Rodriguez who was voted into the last third last season.
Castellanos, who is also a finalist for The Best FIFA Women’s Player 2017, was named for her stunning and awesome volley from the midway line against Cameroon at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Jordan 2016.
He isn’t just the first of his country to come to the Puskás Award top three, but the first player from Africa to be named a finalist, beating off competitions from the likes of MFM FC forward Sikiru Olatunbosun.
Much more surprisingly, the South African is also the first goalkeeper to achieve such historical feat reaching the final third, with his mind-blowing last minute bicycle-kick equalizer for Baroka FC against Orlando Pirates naturally catching the imagination of football fans.
