Premier League champions Chelsea and FA Cup winners Arsenal will face each other in the Community Shield on Sunday, as the Blues are looking for comfort in Alexis Sanchez’s potential nonappearance in the crucial tie.
Alexis Sanchez scored at Wembley as Arsenal toppled Chelsea to win the FA Cup last season, and Thibaut Courtois is hoping the Gunners will be lacking the Chilean on Sunday.
The Chilean will likely miss the fixture with this season’s first piece of silverware up for grabs after he returned to training on Tuesday having suffered from illness.
‘He has a very strong shot, he is quick. He has the technique. He is important for them but Arsenal have a lot of players with quality’, Courtois praised his opponents.
‘Alexis is a guy with a lot of quality’, the Belgian keeper said. ‘If you see all the games from last season there is a lot of danger coming from him’.
‘I’d prefer if he [Sanchez] doesn’t play because he is a good player! But we cannot only look to him’, Courtois admitted.
He did, however, point out that the Chilean is not the only threat on Wenger’s team. ‘So they will miss him but I think they have a lot of players with that quality to replace him. I think they have bought a good new striker [Alexandre Lacazette]’, he said warily.
