Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla will be out of action for an additional five months in the wake of enduring a setback in his recuperation, but the Spanish international confirmed he has agreed to a new deal, having considered surrendering his battle to regain full fitness.
Cazorla has not featured for the Gunners since a 6-0 Champions League win over Ludogorets in October because of injury. It was at first hoped the 32-year-old would make a speedy return, but he was compelled to go under surgical blade on several occasions and in the end missed the rest of the 2016-17 campaign.
The former Villareal midfielder who has underwent surgery for the eighth time this week revealed coming back to action is far away
“I have not been given a timeframe for my comeback,” Cazorla told Cadena Ser.
“It is very difficult to put a date on it, but I think it will be another five months.
“It was the worst season of my career. You feel like throwing in the towel, but my desire to play football is above everything.”
