Arsene Wenger has cautioned he won’t risk destabilising the Arsenal dressing room to meet the wage requests of Alexis Sanchez.
The Chilean, who has only a year left on his current contract, has offers of over £400,000 per week offer to go to the Chinese Super League.
Arsenal has now tabled an offer around £300,000 per week for Alexis, while Chelsea and Manchester City are prepared to poach Wenger’s best player, but Wenger has insisted that the club will not be held to ransom.
According to Wenger interview when asked about Arsenal offering Sanchez £300,000 per week he said:
” £300,000 per week? How much is that per year? I find that price really outrageous. what is for sure is what is paid today was what is paid per year twenty years ago.
He Continued: “Some people tell me ‘Just give him what he wants’. But then you cannot respect anymore the wage structure and you put the club in trouble as well.
“Always, the club has to be the priority. “I understand as well that top players are a big priority, but at the end of the day even for important players you can only pay as much as you can afford.”
The Frenchman believes Sanchez is probably not going to move to China, despite his agents seeming to utilise the rumoured offer as leverage in contract negotiations.
Wenger Stated “I think every club and every player has to make decisions.
“Where are your priorities? Where do you want to play? I think the first priority for top players is to play with the best players and in the best league. It is not where we have to make a choice — ‘I go to China because you earn big money.’
“You make big money in England as well. “So you can combine the best combination of playing at the top and big money is in England at the moment. So China, for me, is not a debate.”
